Are you a series reader or a stand-alone?

Here’s another age old reader’s question: Do you prefer series or stand-alone books? For me, I get drawn into the story, the characters, their lives. I get sucked into series and hate when a book just ends, leaves me hanging. Often when I read a stand alone book, I wonder, what’s next? What happened to him or her? Some authors can tie it neatly into a bow and I don’t have to question as much of what happens next. In other books, I am just plagued with cliff-hanging desire. I want to know it all. I want to be so enveloped into the story, there is nothing left to question. So, for me, I’m totally and completely a series reader.

My favorite series is James Patterson’s Alex Cross Series, his Women’s Murder Club series is a close second. Although, he is my favorite author. Some other series that I cling to are Faye Kellerman’s Decker/Lazarus series, Ellery Adams’ Secret Book & Scone Society series, and Sherryl Woods’ Sweet Magnolia series. Those are just a few to name. Its hard to keep up with them all too, but when I need something comforting, something familiar, these are the one’s I turn to.

What do you turn to in those times? Is it a series? What series? Is it a particular author? If you turn to stand-alone’s, how do you deal with some of the cliff-hanging anxiety that I experience? All in all, books bring me comfort either way you slice it or bind it, but to me, there’s nothing like a good ol’ series!
