Who hasn’t read at least romance novels? I mean even the Hallmark-y ones all the way to the raunchy Harlequin books. I know I have. And can I be real? There’s a part of me that really enjoys them. I remember when I first read the Fifty Shades of Grey series. I had the first book and finished it in a day, yes, you heard me correctly. One day! I went out that night to Target and picked up the rest of the series and finished before the week was over. Of course, that’s when life was way simpler. Let’s be honest, I barely had a life, but still. It was riveting and I was sucked in.
Here’s my question: Are girls more likely to get sucked in by these type of books or do guys also fall victim to the condition of being love struck with these books too? I know I’m a sucker for a good fairy tale and even the more detailed ones. Sometimes it just necessary. I don’t know what it is about these types of book that absolutely take you over. It’s kind of ironic, really. You read this book where the characters are fully enraptured with one another and yet as a reader you’re completely overtaken by the relationship.
My cousin and I used to exchange Harlequin novels throughout high school. I haven’t read one since then and am kind of curious about reading another. Maybe that’s something for Kay and I to explore on an upcoming episode! Be in the lookout listeners ad readers.
For now, let’s ponder these questions? Are romance novels so addicting because it’s something we desire in real life or merely are intoxicated by the Tania’s love of others? Are women the only victims to this Cupid’s arrow? And finally, what are some of the best romance novels and authors you’ve encountered?
