The Hunter

by Jennifer Herrera

Happy New Year’s, readers! My first book of the year is one that comes out on January 10, 2023 and it did not disappoint one bit! I’ve never read this author before, but she is a good one.

The Hunter is a story about a former detective suspended indefinitely from the NYPD who is called back to her hometown in Ohio by her brother to investigate some mysterious deaths. Leigh takes her daughter Simone to her hometown and childhood home to help her brother Ronan out and to face some of her demons. Leigh is not only dealing with her work issue, but problems at home too; her husband has left her and he was her Captain in the police force.

Three young boys mysteriously die in the falls in the town and Leigh makes it her mission to figure it out since it doesn’t sound like a simple suicide. She pushes her way through talking to people, ruffling feathers and learning some deep dark secrets about Copper Falls. However, Leigh also is able to discover her own misgivings and misguided ways to help her heal through multiple life traumas.

With lots of twists and turns and surprising revelations, this was not one to skip out on. The ending was a surprise too and I’m hoping Ms. Herrera is setting this up for a Leigh O’Donnell series! If you haven’t pre-ordered this one yet, get to it! Its not going to disappoint you! Five stars from me!
