Let’s talk about…When the Book Turns Hollywood

There are several great books in process to become movies or shows right now and many already existing. Some of them great adaptations and some not. To me, I love when they capture it in a great way because it brings to life what you’ve escaped to imagine.

My favorite book, The Lovey Bones, was adapted into a film in 2009 with Mark Wahlberg starring. I LOVE this movie. The producers did a great job of capturing exactly what Alice Sebold described in the original novel.

And then, there is the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. The books are amazing. I read them in a matter of a couple weeks in graduate school. But the movies? They weren’t terrible, but I feel like the casting could have been improved on some of the characters. Namely, Bella’s character.

It’s all a matter of preference of course and likes and dislikes of actors and actresses when it comes to these opinions. What makes a good movie/show adaptation for you? What causes you anger and frustration when they don’t quite get it right? How do you feel when they cut parts out? (That is one of my ultimate frustrations! I know they can’t put EVERYTHING in, but come on!)

There are several that are coming out soon: The Last Thing He Told Me and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Several are still in production: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Verity. What are you anticipating and excited to see come out?
