Searching for God Knows What

by Donald Miller

This was a difficult read. This is a self-help/Christian book, so if you’re not interested in that topic at all, this one is not for you. I have read a couple of other Donald Miller books (notably Blue Like Jazz) and I struggle with his writing style.

While he tends to write conversationally, what I would imagine having a conversation with him feels like, it is hard to follow and at times feels disjointed and tangential. I struggle to keep up with him and follow his logic.

This book focuses on how to be able to follow God in today’s society and pressures but making the Bible relevant to today’s culture. Now, I’ve summarized it simplistically because I struggled to comprehend and absorb all of his points. I gave this book three stars because I really struggled through and was challenged to keep my attention at times. Usually I don’t mind to read self-help books or even Christian-focused books, but I have found that I similar confused feelings every time I read one of Mr. Miller’s works. Check him out if you’re curious because I think he has valuable things to say, but just go into knowing you may struggle.
