by Dorothy Koomson

Want a cute quick read? This one is for you! Koomson develops a cute story with some difficult topics in a great way. It only took me a week to read and would have been sooner if life, right?
Kendra returns to England after escaping Australia after a series of unfortunate events and tough relationship issues. She moves into an apartment off of a family’s home: Kyle and his two children Summer and Jaxon. Kendra becomes very close with the children and develops a deep friendship with their father Kyle. Kyle and Kendra both have dealt with some serious relationship issues. Kyle discloses these pretty quickly, but Kendra struggles with trusting and divulging her trauma to be able to move past it.
Koomson develops Kendra’s healing process and how she overcomes the anxiety and trauma of being raped. My one complaint: it took way too long to get to the point of why Kendra was so anxious and distrusting. I was a little disappointed that she didn’t entertain Kyle as a suitor in the future and keeps him at arms length as a “friend.” Otherwise, it was a cute story and a good palate cleanser after “If You Tell.” Four stars from me!
