I really enjoyed this book, let me start off with. It was a great read. If you like when authors change time periods between chapters or character perspectives, you will appreciate this book; if you don’t, this might confuse you.
The Wedding Veil follows two time periods…one is the period of Edith and Cornelia Vanderbilt in the 1890s-1930s and Barbara and Julia in present day. Each set of women follow the tradition of having a wedding veil that has been passed from generation to generation.
Julia ends her relationship with her long-time boyfriend and fiance Hayes because of a last minute video she receives and feels bad about putting bad mojo on the veil. She escapes to the Caribbean and meets Conner, an architect. Julia also questions the original owner of the veil.
Cornelia is Edith’s daughter who marries Jack Cecil and she is very happy but also becomes deeply saddened about her father’s death and what that means for the future of the Biltmore Estate. This deeply troubles her and she decides to change the fate of the Vanderbilt family and how that intersects with Barbara’s mother, Gladys.
Although the ending is quite abrupt and it surprised me, this book was great and definitly one that I would recommend for our readers and listeners. Five stars from me!
What are your thoughts about historical fictions? Do you enjoy them or do you feel they patronize the true history? What time periods are you more drawn to?
