Pretty Girls

by Karin Slaughter

I had such high hopes for this one because I really enjoy Karin Slaughter’s work usually, but this one was a flop for me. Its a three-star, but you may feel differently.

Instead of re-telling the story for you, let me tell you my challenges with the book because the plot of the story was the best part of it. Challenge number one – The chapters were very long. Challenge number two – the descriptions of what was going on was way too long-winded and it was easy to get lost in those details rather than focus on the story at hand.

Challenge number three – this one was less challenging for me, but wow major trigger warnings needed for this one. Challenge number four – the twists of the psychological thriller was not very well-developed. Here’s my last challenge, challenge number five – Character development was a little chaotic and hard to follow at times.

You make a choice and try it for yourself. The plot was good, but Karin Slaughter needed some changes in how she developed it and made it twist and turn. I was only shocked maybe twice through the whole book.

What do you do when you find a flop? Do you keep on or do you let it go? At what point do you make that decision? I found myself hoping that it would get better and then by the time I realized this was a 3-star, I was 75% in.
