By Jennifer McMahon

This story was a hit of a thriller and drama put together. I’ve never read this author before and honestly struggled at times. It was a quick read but it did not catch me and keep me guessing. It was a bit disorganized and time lapsed. I saw what McMahon was trying to execute, it just did not do so well.
Lizzy is in the present and she is a “monster hunter” looking for monsters. She travels to Vermont to search for a missing girl. We also hear the perspective of Violet from 1978 when the Hillside Inn was in the height of its operations.
We learn their true identities and how they are connected despite time changes. Violet reveals she is doing good things rather than the suspected bad things Lizzy worries about.
The ending is lacking in intrigue and kind of falls flat for me. I don’t want to not recommend the book for those who might find it more intriguing than me but I have it three stars. Let me know what your thoughts are and if I misinterpreted some of the authors attempts to make this a thriller.
