by Marieke Nijkamp

This was on my my month reads from my book tree that Kay got me for Christmas last year, and it did not disappoint. I loved it.
Nijkamp explores the world of four teens who attend Opportunity High School. On this particular day, there is a huge assembly and Autumn’s brother, Tyler, interrupts the assembly and is the next school shooter. The book follows 55 minutes of the lives of Autumn, her girlfriend Sylv, Sylv’s twin brother Tomas, and Tyler’s ex-girlfriend Claire.
This book captivated me for multiple reasons. I love knowing all the characters’ perspectives! Its interesting to be in their minds and understand what they are experiencing. It breaks the story up also.
School shootings seem to be a common occurrence in our society now, unfortunately. It was interesting to sort of dive into this topic and understand the personal effects on a variety of people this type of situation can have. If you haven’t read this, you should. I will warn you, it is a little graphic and may need a trigger warning. If you’re squeamish at all, you may not want to dare on this one. I gave it five stars and would be interested to read another from Nijkamp.
