Abuela, Don’t Forget Me

This book was not what I expected it to be and a little different writing style than I’m used to, and I liked it. It is kind of poet style but still in chapters.

Rex is the author and protagonist. He writes about his grandmother, Abuela, who not only cared for, loved him but also saved him. It is a heart wrenching story of a boy trying to find his way and seeking the love and attention from his family that he deserves. We as the reader learns that Rex did not have an easy upbringing and that presently, his abuela is suffering from dementia and he writes these as a reminder to himself and her of how she was always there for him.

I would definitely recommend this one. You don’t need to know Spanish to read it, in fact Rex gives you most of the translations of everything he writes/speaks with his grandmother. It released on 9/6/22 (though I read it beforehand). Five star review for me and definite recommend!
