This has to be one of my favorite genres and yet it’s the one I probably read the least of sadly. I love having the stories of various crimes and how they’ve gone through the investigative process.
I’d have to say that Ann Rule is my favorite True crime author given that she really paints a picture. It’s not just facts and laying out a timeline. She really puts you in that story and ready to hear multiple perspectives.
I’ve read several more recently since I’ve been reading for NetGalley. I’m currently working on one that comes out on March 14, 2023 and it has not been a disappointment. (Shameless plug: be on the lookout for that review coming soon!)
I love true crime podcasts also. My favorite is True Crime Garage (http://www.truecrimegarage.com). I love how they dive into the cases and there is relevant commentary but they don’t get detailed by a lot of side chatter like some others. I’ve also started listening to Unsolved: Worcester (http://unsolvedworcester.com). This reviews unsolved homicides in Worcester MA which is my hometown.
What are your favorite true crime authors or books? Do you indulge in true crime podcasts? What intrigues you about these cases?
