The Berry Pickers

By Amanda Peters

What an interesting read. It was slow to start and then it got me. Once I got sucked in, it was hard for me to stop. I wanted so badly to figure out who Norma was and what happens next.

We’re introduced to a Indian family that meets tragedy pretty quickly when their little Ruthie disappears without explanation. The family, particularly the brother, Joe, never moves on from losing Ruthie.

Norma is part of a white family that hides her away and is a little weird. The mother is overbearing and controlling but you find out for kind of good reason, in her own right.

Norma struggles throughout her childhood and adulthood with her identify until it becomes crystal clear who she is.

It’s a poignant story of heartbreak, family ties that bind and love never ending. You should check this book out. If you can with the slow beginning like me, you won’t regret it! Four stars from me!
